In my practice, I explore the cyclical nature of destruction and regeneration through intense material manipulation.
The heavily charred areas of this canvas painting serve as more than mere aesthetic choices; they echo the aftermath of devastation I've witnessed in burnt landscapes, where the blackened surface becomes a temporary pause in an endless cycle of transformation.
What fascinates me is how these carbonized zones mirror real-world phenomena: just as burned earth inevitably splits to allow new growth, the charred portions of the work create their own topography of cracks and fissures. The warm russet tones emerging at the bottom and the scattered pale areas breaking through the darkness suggest this persistent push of life and renewal.
The piece speaks to my understanding of time not as a linear progression, but as a measurement of matter's continuous circulation and transformation. The work itself exists in multiple temporal states; the immediate violence of the burning process, the gradual emergence of oxidation patterns, and the suspended moment of completion.
Like a photograph freezing a split second of reality, the painting captures a single frame in an ongoing material metamorphosis.
